Extension Care

FAQ

Care Instructions for Extensions

WASHING

I suggest washing your hair 1-2x a week with an extension-safe shampoo and conditioner. My favorite to use is GoldieLocks. For every couple of washes, use a hydrating mask. Washing your hair every day will shorten the life of your extensions. When needing a refresh, I recommend doing a half-wash midweek. A half-wash is when I'll pull back everything besides the top layer of my natural hair, wash, and restyle. It's a small hack to have fresh hair without washing your extensions daily.

Be sure to brush out all tangles before getting it wet. Holding the top of your wefts to prevent any looping, that will ruin your extensions. Be gentle with them.

If you are wearing more than one row, cleanse between rows gently, then condition mid-lengths to end following your shampoo or hair mask.

drying

Gently towel dry (I like to use a microfiber towel) after the shower. Brush out extensions using a leave-in conditioner. Separate by row to ensure you’re removing all tangles. The same rules apply to brushing as stated before. Use a heat-protecting product and oil before applying any heat to the hair.

It's very important to blow dry hand tied extensions (micro wefts can be air-dried). This is going to prevent swelling of the wefts, and matting. Wefts will get ruined if this is not done. DO NOT sleep with wet hair, or pull it up in a pony or bun.

styling

You can style extensions just like normal hair. Before using any hot tools, be sure to use a heat protectant. Extension hairstyles do last so much longer. To protect my style, I like to sleep in a braid or twist, allowing me to only do small touch-ups throughout the week.

The best part of IBE is your can wear your hair up in a pony or high bun! They are versatile and flexible.

Brush your hair multiple times a day, to prevent tangles and matting. I usually carry a small brush with me to keep up with brushing. DO NOT brush over the top of the extensions, this will ruin them making it so that we will not be able to reinstall. Hold the wefts while brushing so you can feel what is going on.

sleeping

Sleep in a low braid, twist, or ponytail. I recommend using a silk pillowcase, this will help prevent frizz and damage to the extensions. Brush well and apply an oil/serum to your hair before bed.

NEVER sleep with wet or damp hair.

swimmimg & sunscreen

Yes, you can swim with extensions! There are just a few risks when doing so. Pools have lots of minerals floating in the water that may discolor your extensions. Salt water can be very drying to the extensions, and may result in matting if you aren't prepared.

Here are a few rules to follow:

- Before getting into any water, be sure to dampen your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner, and brush it through really well. Put your hair in a tight braid or pony. It needs to be tight or it may result in a big matted mess.
- Wash and brush your hair well after swimming. I recommend using a hydrating hair mask at this time.
- Watch out for Sunscreen!!! Mineral Sunscreen is the only option. Using a nonmineral sunscreen will turn them a pinky-orange color. This can also happen when hair is dipped in a pool that has avobenzone sunscreens floating from other people swimming, or from particles from spray sunscreens. I recommend the **Bare Republic** or **Supergoop** sunscreen. If you use **SUN BUM, only use the white can** that is mineral-based. Stay away from anything that has "Avobenzone" as an ingredient, it is what causes the pink/peach discoloration.
